An accomplished academic, Mutanda has lectured in the Media Studies Department at the University of Botswana and the Department of Creative Media and Communication at the University of Zimbabwe. Among his notable achievements, he designed the award-winning video installation project, The Besiegement – Advocating Mental Health, which was launched in Harare on March 8, 2019. Read more about it here. Additionally, he conceptualized and designed WILL – WAITING IN LIMBO + LONELY, a powerful video installation art piece reflecting his personal journey and coping mechanisms during a challenging year-long wait for a work permit in a foreign country.
In 2003, Mutanda was invited by South African producer Bridget Pickering to join the production crew for Terry George’s Oscar-nominated Hollywood blockbuster Hotel Rwanda (Lions Gate, 35mm) in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Beyond his academic and production credentials, Peter Mutanda is a multi-faceted artist and cultural advocate. He is a video journalist, poet, traditional drum player, and a multi-lingual individual familiar with diverse cultures. His professional journey has taken him across South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, the USA, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, and Finland. Additionally, he has conducted arts workshops and collaborations in Africa, Europe, and the USA, producing and directing award-winning and nominated theatre pieces, films, and visual arts projects.
Currently, Peter Mutanda is pursuing a PhD in Design at the University of Botswana.
